The Qatari foreign minister said on Saturday in a statement quoted by al Jazeera TV that the Iranian leadership had indicated it was ready to compromise on “Iran‘s nuclear file”, referring to talks to renew the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers. But Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said that the words of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have been misinterpreted or misplaced, reports the official Tasnim news agency.
Qatar-based TV quoted Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani as saying that reaching an agreement would improve stability in the Gulf region and help oil markets.”Pumping more Iranian oil into the market will help stabilize green prices and reduce inflation,” the minister said.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh told Tasnim: “The Supreme Leader has not commented on the agreement, but has told the Emir of Qatar: ‘We have been saying that the talks should be effective and not wasting time.”It is clear from the context of the Leader ‘s statement that (he intended) that football is in the American court, which must make the right political decision to fulfill its obligations,” Khatibzadeh said.
On Friday, the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani – who met Khamenei during a visit to Iran in early May – expressed hope that an agreement between the United States and Iran could be reached, expressing readiness to assist in the matter.Iran and the United States have held indirect negotiations over the past year to renew Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, but talks have stalled.Tehran has also said that Washington should make a political decision to honor Iran’s “red lines”, including removing the Revolutionary Guards from the US terrorist list.
