Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to allow Himachal Pradesh an additional borrowing capacity of 2% of its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2025-26.
During a meeting in New Delhi, Sukhu raised concerns over the reduction of Revenue Deficit Grants, stressing that despite efforts to boost state resources, the financial gap remains significant. He highlighted the need for increased funds to accelerate stalled infrastructure projects, particularly those affected by tough terrain and climatic conditions. Sukhu also requested a revision of borrowing restrictions set by the Department of Expenditure to facilitate external assistance and reconstruction efforts.
