The NEET-UG 2024 examination has been embroiled in a tumultuous controversy following allegations of widespread malpractice, including question paper leaks and instances of impersonation during the May 5 test. Originally slated for results on June 14, the National Testing Agency (NTA) surprisingly announced them on June 4, citing early completion of answer sheet evaluations.
A startling 67 students achieved a flawless score of 720, a record-breaking feat that has raised eyebrows, particularly with six top scorers emanating from a center in Faridabad, intensifying suspicions of irregularities. Furthermore, 1,563 candidates who were granted grace marks were instructed to undergo re-testing, yet 750 of them chose to abstain.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been entrusted with probing the alleged paper leak, leading to the arrest of six individuals, including a key orchestrator named Aman Singh. Amidst these developments, the Union government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing calls for a re-conduct of the exam, arguing against disruptions to the academic calendar and emphasizing that instances of malpractice were isolated and limited in scope, affecting identifiable individuals and locations where stringent actions are being taken.
