Indian National Killed, Two Injured in Missile Attack Near Israel’s Northern Border

An Indian national from Kerala tragically lost his life, while two others sustained injuries in a missile strike near Israel’s northern border, according to reports.

The missile, believed to have been fired by the Shia Hezbollah faction in Lebanon, struck an orchard near the community of Margaliot in Israel’s Galilee region around 11 a.m. local time on Monday. The attack resulted in the death of Patnibin Maxwell, a native of Kollam in Kerala, whose mortal remains were identified at Ziv Hospital, as stated by official sources.

Among the injured were Bush Joseph George and Paul Melvin, who hail from Kerala’s Idukki district. George, suffering from injuries to his face and body, underwent surgery at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva and is reportedly in stable condition. Melvin, with minor injuries, was hospitalized at Ziv Hospital in Safed.

The attack, which also targeted foreign workers, left one dead and seven others injured. The injured were promptly transported to various hospitals for treatment, including Beilinson, Rambam, and Ziv hospitals.

In response to the missile strike, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) retaliated by shelling the launch site with artillery. Additionally, IDF forces struck Hezbollah compounds in southern Lebanon, where members of the group were reportedly gathered.

Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel’s northern communities have intensified since October 8, purportedly in support of Hamas amid ongoing conflicts in the Gaza Strip. The situation underscores the escalating tensions in the region, prompting swift responses from both Israeli and international authorities.

As investigations into the incident continue, the plight of foreign nationals caught in the crossfire serves as a stark reminder of the far-reaching consequences of regional conflicts. The incident has drawn condemnation and calls for restraint from global leaders, emphasizing the urgency of finding peaceful resolutions to ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.
