Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R.K. Singh called on all provincial ministers, as well as the Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories, to establish Regional Energy Transformation Steering Committees. These Steering Committees will function under the chairmanship of the General Secretaries of the countries / territories of the Union. Principal Secretaries of New and Renewable Energy, Transport, Industry, Housing and Urban Development, Agriculture, Rural Development and Departments of Public Works, etc. shall serve as a member of these Committees. The States and Union Territories will operate on an annual power transfer strategy under the authority of the committee.
Energy transformation
The Minister also emphasized that governments / UTs have a key role to play in meeting the government’s specific goals of sustainable development in a highly energy efficient manner. He added that energy transformation is the only way to reduce carbon emissions and fulfill our commitments made at international forums. He informed that other provinces such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand have set up such committees.
Growing electricity demand
Shri Singh stressed that in order to change power, the States and the Union Territories must work together on more tracks. He added that the first track is the addition of renewable energy (renewable energy) to the generator to meet the nation’s growing electricity demand. He said the second track would improve energy efficiency and the third would be heavily used for biomass and green hydrogen. He said if we could work together on these issues, we would not only achieve our goals, but also create new jobs, accelerate development, and ultimately benefit all South Africans.
The Minister called on governments to work towards zero diesel agriculture in 2024 by reducing diesel consumption in the agricultural sector. In this regard, financial assistance through the RDSS (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme) may be made available to receive solar energy for use by various agricultural suppliers and agricultural suppliers under the PM-KUSUM program.Shri Singh emphasized that the role of the Provincial Government is crucial in the successful implementation of a 45% reduction in emissions by 2030 compared to 2005.
