Marcus Stoinis Creates IPL History with Record-breaking Knock

In a stunning display of power-hitting and composure under pressure, Marcus Stoinis, the Australian all-rounder representing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), etched his name in the annals of IPL history on Tuesday. Stoinis achieved a remarkable feat by registering the highest individual score ever during a run-chase in the Indian Premier League.

Facing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chepauk Stadium, Stoinis showcased a masterclass in batting, crafting an unbeaten 124 runs off just 63 balls. His innings, laced with 13 boundaries and six towering sixes, propelled LSG to a memorable victory, breaching CSK’s fortress at Chepauk for the first time this season.

Stoinis surpassed the previous record held by Punjab Kings’ Paul Valthaty, who scored 120* against CSK in 2011. Notably, this remarkable knock by Stoinis also stands as the second-highest individual score by an LSG batter in IPL history, trailing behind Quinton de Kock’s 140*.

Furthermore, Stoinis’s innings rewrote the record books once again as it became the highest individual score against CSK in IPL history, eclipsing Virender Sehwag’s legendary knock of 122 in 2014.

Throughout the ongoing IPL season, Stoinis has been a consistent performer for LSG, amassing 254 runs in eight matches at an impressive average of 42.33 and a staggering strike rate of over 159.

In the match against CSK, Stoinis’s heroics were pivotal in LSG’s successful run chase of 211 runs. Despite a sluggish start, his calculated aggression and unwavering resolve steered the team towards victory. Supported by crucial cameos from Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda, Stoinis anchored the chase with finesse, culminating in a thrilling six-wicket win.

For his outstanding performance, Marcus Stoinis rightfully earned the ‘Player of the Match’ award, solidifying his status as a key asset for Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing IPL campaign.

With this victory, LSG maintains its strong position in the IPL standings, occupying the fourth spot with five wins and three losses. Meanwhile, CSK faces a setback, slipping to the fifth position despite a commendable performance in the tournament.
