Known for actively sharing quirky stories on social media, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra shared a video of a young man from rural India inventing an electric six-seater auto-rickshaw, saying the device could find “global use”. Impressed by the innovation, the tycoon tweeted: “With only minor design inputs (cylindrical sections for the @BosePratap chassis?) this device could find global use. Like a tour ‘bus’ in crowded European tourist centres? I’ve always been impressed by the innovation in rural transport, where necessity is the mother of invention.”
Vehicle accommodate total of 6 people
The clip features a man driving a vehicle against a backdrop of vast fields. According to the man, the vehicle can accommodate a total of six people and costs between ₹ 10,000 and Rs. 12,000. After charging, you can drive up to 150 kilometers. He also claimed that the vehicle can be recharged for just ₹10. Since being shared on Thursday, the clip has racked up more than five million views on Twitter. The innovation piqued the interest of internet users and compliments poured in.
User wrote: “It’s a great idea for closed loops like in zoo, park, corporate complexes, it won’t be suitable for regular traffic because 1. Turning radius, 2 . Centrifugal weight when cornering, 3. Suspension on uneven roads, 4. No space for luggage, 5. Battery capacity under heavy load.’
Another user wrote: “I’m amazed at the price under $150. I assume they are only talking about material costs. If a corporation does it, the cost will be $1500 per min (10x COGS). So best to open source the design and let the community innovate!” A third user commented, “Hats off to such young talent from India.
