In a significant boost to sports development, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has disbursed an out-of-pocket allowance totaling ₹7,71,30,000 to 2571 Khelo India Athletes (KIAs) for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2023-24. This financial assistance is part of the Khelo India Scholarship Scheme aimed at nurturing and supporting talented athletes across the country.
Under the Khelo India Scheme’s long-term development program, approximately 3000 athletes are identified as Khelo India athletes and provided with various forms of support. Each athlete receives an out-of-pocket allowance of ₹1,20,000 per annum, along with an additional ₹5 lakh earmarked for training and competition expenses.
The Quarter 4 allocation for the financial year 2023-24 covers the period from January to March 2024, bringing the total amount released to KIAs for all four quarters to ₹30,83,30,000. This substantial financial assistance underscores the government’s commitment to promoting sports excellence and nurturing the next generation of sporting talent in the country.
The Khelo India scheme aims to provide comprehensive support to talented athletes, covering various aspects such as training, coaching, diet, kitting, medical insurance, and out-of-pocket allowances. Each KIA receives an annual scholarship totaling ₹6.28 lakhs, reflecting the government’s holistic approach to sports development.
The breakdown of the amounts released to Khelo India Athletes for the financial year 2023-24 is as follows:
Quarter 1: 2848 KIAs – ₹7,36,70,000
Quarter 2: 2684 KIAs – ₹7,81,10,000
Quarter 3: 2663 KIAs – ₹7,94,20,000
Quarter 4: 2571 KIAs – ₹7,71,30,000
