Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the establishment of 100 new police stations and the construction of 10,000 police residential quarters in the state by 2025. The announcement was made during the Police Remembrance Day event, where he paid tribute to 216 police officers who died in the line of duty across the country, including 12 from Karnataka.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the police force, stating, “It is the government’s duty to provide houses for policemen.” To fulfill this, the state has allocated ₹2,000 crore for building 10,000 residential quarters by 2025. Additionally, ₹200 crore has been sanctioned to build 100 new police stations across the state.
At the event, Siddaramaiah also highlighted measures to improve law enforcement and public safety. He mentioned the deployment of 200 patrol vehicles on highways and the installation of 6,000 CCTV cameras for monitoring public spaces, aiming to curb unlawful activities and ensure quick responses to accidents.
The Chief Minister also announced the opening of seven new public schools, with a promise to establish more in the future, and stressed the importance of maintaining law and order to foster a peaceful society. He said, “A peaceful society attracts investment, creates more job opportunities, increases per capita income, and improves the economy.”
In a related announcement, Siddaramaiah declared that all government residential schools in the state will be renamed as Maharshi Valmiki Residential Schools, a move made on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. He criticized the opposition for only “talking about equality” and not implementing policies that benefit communities.
This development highlights the Karnataka government’s focus on strengthening its law enforcement infrastructure and enhancing public services across the state.
