Washington: U.S. President Joe Biden is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on September 26, the White House confirmed. The meeting will focus on Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia, including Kyiv’s strategic plans and continued U.S. support for Ukraine’s defense.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced the meeting, stating, “President Biden and Vice President Harris will emphasize their unwavering commitment to Ukraine until it prevails in the war.”
Zelenskyy, who will also meet Vice President Kamala Harris separately, is expected to present Ukraine’s Plan for Victory and discuss how U.S. support can aid in Ukraine’s struggle for freedom. In addition to the White House meeting, Zelenskyy will address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and hold talks with world leaders during his visit.
The visit comes at a crucial time as the U.S. prepares additional rounds of support for Kyiv. Biden’s administration has been a key ally of Ukraine since the war began in 2022, providing military and financial aid, while also imposing sanctions on Russia.
As part of his visit, Zelenskyy will meet representatives from U.S. Congress and former President Donald Trump. The Ukrainian leader will also engage with American defense and energy companies, as well as members of the Ukrainian community.
This meeting underscores the U.S.’s ongoing commitment to helping Ukraine amid the escalating conflict, with Biden reiterating his support for Ukraine to prevail in negotiations and combat.
