US President Joe Biden told the nation from the Oval Office on Friday that Hamas and Russia are trying to “destroy” democracy. “The terrorism and tyranny of Hamas and Putin pose different threats, but both want to destroy their neighbors’ democracies,” Biden said.
If international aggression continues, Biden said, “conflict and chaos could spread to other corners of the world.”
The US president said on Friday he would ask Congress to approve massive aid to Ukraine and Israel. He said it was an investment in the future of the United States as a global leader.
Joe Biden says “It’s a smart investment in American security that will pay off for generations, American leadership is what holds the world together. American alliances keep us, America, safe. American values make us willing partners with other nations.”
Biden’s rare public speech came days after he visited Israel to try to prevent the war between Tel Aviv and Hamas from spilling over into a wider regional conflict and to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.
The President of the United States said in his speech that the safety of America occupied by Gaza is a priority.
“As president, my priority is no longer the safety of Americans in detention.” “In Israel, I saw people who were strong, determined, resilient, but also angry, confused and deeply hurt.”
