Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Highlights India’s Scientific Successes at DSIR Foundation Day

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, addressed the 40th foundation day celebration of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). The minister commended India’s recent science successes, citing examples such as the purple revolution initiated by DSIR and CSIR in the Himalayan region and the Department of Biotechnology’s development of the first DNA vaccine.

Dr. Jitendra Singh also highlighted the triple success registered by the Department of Space with Chandrayaan 3, Aditya Mission, and XPoSat. He emphasized that these achievements have elevated the esteem of India’s science and made scientific research, innovation, and startups more popular than ever. The minister underscored the importance of strong industry linkage to bring the outcomes of research and development to society and enhance the commercial viability of startups in the science and technology field.

As Chief Guest at the event, Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the 40th Foundation Day Celebration of DSIR by lighting a lamp. The event also featured Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Member (S&T), NITI Aayog, and Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, PSA to the Government of India, as Guests of Honour.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood emphasized DSIR’s significant role in technology as the focus increasingly shifts towards it. Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat urged DSIR and NRDC to create value addition centers for promoting translational research in the country.

The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), established in 1985 under the Ministry of Science and Technology, plays a crucial role in promoting, developing, and transferring indigenous technology in India. DSIR grants recognition/registration to in-house R&D centers, Scientific Research Foundations, and Public Funded Research Institutions, supporting industrial research and development across various sectors.
