June 30, 2024 – Tragedy struck in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir as a bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a gorge following a terrorist ambush. The incident occurred on the evening of June 9 in the Pouni area when terrorists opened fire on the bus, which was transporting ‘yatris’ from Shiv Khori to Katra.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on Sunday that it conducted searches at five locations in connection with the June 9 attack. These locations were associated with “hybrid terrorists” and “overground workers,” according to NIA officials. The raids were guided by information from Hakam Khan, alias Hakam Din, who was arrested on June 19 by the Jammu and Kashmir police for allegedly providing logistics to the terrorists.
The NIA revealed that Hakam Din had offered the terrorists safe shelter, logistics, and food. During the searches, various items were seized, linking the terrorists with overground workers. The agency is currently examining the seized materials to uncover the full extent of the terror conspiracy.
The attack resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to many others. The bus, carrying pilgrims mostly from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, was returning from the Shiv Khori shrine when it was attacked and subsequently fell into a deep gorge.
Rescue operations are still underway, with efforts focused on assisting the injured and recovering the deceased. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for heightened security measures for pilgrims in the region.
