Iranian troops have provided details – but not the exact location – of the underground airstrip, state media reported on Saturday, amid tensions in the Gulf.State TV said 100 drones were stored in the heart of the Zagros mountains, including the Ababil-5, which claimed to be equipped with Qaem-9 arrows, an Iranian-made version of U.S. air-to-surface. “There is no doubt that the military drones of the Islamic Republic of Iran are the most powerful in the region,” said military commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi. “Our ability to develop drones is unstoppable,” he added. An Iranian state TV reporter said a 45-minute flight Thursday from Kermanshah in western Iran to a secret drone location. He was allowed to remove his blindfolds only when he reached the base, he said. TV pictures showed lines of drones mounted in the tunnel, saying it was less than a few hundred feet below the surface.

A TV report came a day after Iranian Revolutionary Guards seized two Greek tanks in the Gulf, in retaliation for the US take of Iranian oil from a ship bound for the Greek coast.Greek authorities last month shut down an Iranian-carrying Pegas, with 19 Russian members on board, as a result of European Union sanctions. The United States later seized an Iranian oil tanker and planned to ship it to the United States by another ship. Pegas was later released, but the kidnapping created tensions at a critical juncture, when Iran and world powers sought to revive nuclear weapons. An agreement that former US President Donald Trump abandoned, also reinstated sanctions on Tehran.
