Tragedy Strikes in Ladakh Five Indian Army Soldiers Lose Lives During River Crossing Exercise

Five Indian Army soldiers were involved in an accident on Saturday morning during a river crossing exercise near the Line of Actual Control in Daulat Beg Oldi of Leh region, officials said.

A sub-commissioner or JCO was among the five dead in the incident.

The soldiers were on their routine training around 3am today. Official sources said the water level started rising suddenly when it crossed the Bodhi River near Morh Mandir, 148 km from Leh. Soon tanks and soldiers plunged into the swollen river.

Rescue operations were immediately started and five bodies have been recovered. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh mourned his death.

He expressed deep sorrow over the death of five Indian Army soldiers in the accident while taking a tank across a river in Ladakh.
