Maharashtra is the second most populous country in the country and is home to the Indian financial capital Mumbai.
The prime minister of India’s western Maharashtra region, the richest province in the country, resigned on Wednesday, after his ruling party rebelled against the opposition.
The resignation of Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena’s regional party chief, will allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Baratiya Janata Party (BJP) to form a government in the province as the rebel party extends its allegiance to the BJP.
