India will run for re-election to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Council

India, under the leadership of His Excellency the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, has been at the forefront of digital transformation, achieving tremendous success in the development and implementation of information and communication technology, ”said Shri Devusinh Chauhan, Minister of State. Communication during the World Wide Information Conference (WSIS) 2022. Shri Devusinh Chauhan, led the Indian delegation to participate in WSIS 2022 on 31 May – 3 June 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.

WSIS is co-organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in partnership with all WSIS. Participants / facilitators of Action Line and other UN agencies. It is an ongoing process since the WSIS Summit in 2003 to take further steps in building a global knowledge society.

India enters the competition, for re-election, to the ITU Council, for the period 2023-2026. India has been a member of the ITU since 1869 and has been actively involved in the activities, and activities of the Union, and has been contributing, as fully as possible, to the growth and development, of Telecom / ICTs, for the benefit of the international community.Speaking at the launch of India’s Radio Regulations Board (RRB) Nominee and candidates for India’s ITU Council for re-election, Shri Devusinh Chauhan said India shared the ITU’s dream, vision and vision of achieving the world, as a connected society , and assists ICTs, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of 2030.

Raising the name of Ms. M. Revathi, as representing the Member of India, RRB, the Minister said Ms. Revathi, has a proven track record, professionalism, leadership skills, commitment to delivering timely tasks, systematic problem-solving ability. , and framework guidelines, for inclusive ICT development.ShriDevusinh Chauhan reiterated India’s strong commitment, contributing to the achievement of the ITU’s goals and called on stakeholders to support India’s election, ITU Council, and the appointment of MsRevathi, RRB.

During the event, the Minister participated in a number of sessions including a high-level “Digital Diversification” session, a Ministerial Cycle Table on ICT for health, inclusion, and sustainability and a High Performance Intelligence (AI) Discussion. While presenting a high-level digital policy statement, he informed the international forum about Indian Government initiatives such as Bharatnet to integrate all 6 lakh districts, mobile access to all districts, high speed internet access and many more programs. It was also reported that India has successfully acquired approved custom standards that will assist in the distribution of 5G in rural areas.

During high-level meetings on ICT and AI, Shri Devusinh Chauhan briefed participants on India’s plans to develop a credible ICT infrastructure, and government efforts to secure AI capacity. The minister said India, as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, had a significant role to play in AI transformation, given its disruptive status, and its ability to transform economies. On the side of WSIS 2022, the Minister of State for Communications, Shri Devusinh Chauhan held several international meetings and met with a number of dignitaries and experts such as the ITU Deputy Secretary, Mr. Malcom Johnson, Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. IssaZarepour, Japan’s Deputy Minister of Policy Coordination, Mr. Yuji Sasaki, Secretary-General of the ITU, Mr. Haolin Zhou. The Minister unveiled a small monument to the World’s Greatest Symbol, the Statue of Unity (Shri SardarVallabhbhai Patel).The Honorable Secretary-General of the ITU, Mr. Haolin Zhou commended India’s efforts in ICT. WISS Chair Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim noted India as a successful study.
