As several states continued to reel from heavy monsoon rains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a fresh weather warning for the next five days. According to the forecast of the meteorological department, no relief is expected for states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, flood-ravaged Himachal Pradesh in the coming days.
The IMD said the cyclonic circulation over and around northwest Madhya Pradesh and the formation of a low pressure area (LOPAR) over the Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast continued to bring rainfall to the affected states. It also warned of possible further landslides in the hilly areas of Maharashtra and Odisha as well as waterlogging in other places.
Here is the latest IMD weather forecast:
•Odisha: LOPAR is expected to trigger moderate to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state till July 24, IMD said. It also predicts the formation of another area of low pressure on July 24. Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam and Gajapati areas have been warned to take precautionary measures in view of possible threats of landslides.
•Gujarat and Maharashtra: Coastal states are expected to witness widespread rainfall with up to very heavy rainfall at isolated places during the next five days. Mumbai will continue to witness extremely heavy rainfall at isolated areas till Saturday.
Gujarat has been put on ‘orange’ alert for today as it is expected to receive ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall. Schools will remain closed in Maharashtra’s Palghar and Thane till Saturday.
•Goa: The IMD has predicted “light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to continue over Konkan and Goa. Isolated “extremely” heavy rainfall likely over Konkan and Goa, likely on 21st.
•Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand: Light to moderate, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is forecast in the hill states till July 24. The Met office also said that the risk of flash floods will persist in Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla and Sirmaur districts during the period.
•Rajasthan: Eastern parts of the state are likely to experience very heavy rainfall today and will continue to receive heavy rainfall till July 24 and heavy showers in some areas during the same period.
•Uttar Pradesh: The IMD has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the western parts of the state on July 24.
•North East: The Meteorological Office has predicted “isolated heavy rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Saturday; over Assam and Meghalaya by July 24 and over Arunachal Pradesh on July 23-24. July.
