The Northeast has its first remote pilot training school in Guwahati as part of the central government’s drive to make India a hub for drone technology, officials said. Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON) has tied up with EduRade, a start-up incubated at IIT-Guwahati and IIM-Calcutta Innovation Park, for the project.
The Drone School was inaugurated by Assam Information Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta on Tuesday. “Youth can work anywhere in the country and in any sector after being trained by experts,” he said. The school will have trainers certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct the pilot license training programme.
The facility has been set up at the Tech City here, with its flying at the Assam Forest School in Jalukbari. AMTRON has acquired two domestic drones of the micro category (not more than 2 kg) and two domestic drones of the small category (2-25 kg) for training purposes, officials said. India’s first DGCA-approved drone training school was inaugurated in Haryana last year.
