In the ongoing saga of a high-profile divorce case, senior IAS official Smita Bharadwaj has taken legal action against her actor husband Nitish Bharadwaj, filing a ‘darkhast’ in a family court in Mumbai. The application demands the sale of his property to recover unpaid child support amounting to ₹10,000 per month for each of their daughters.
Confirming the filing of the ‘darkhast’, Bharadwaj’s lawyer Chinmay Vaidya stated, “Recovery proceedings have been initiated based on an interim order for a sum of ₹10,000 per daughter, totaling ₹20,000 per month, which has been unpaid since December 2022.” Vaidya refrained from divulging further details, citing the sub judice nature of the matter.
Sources close to Smita Bharadwaj revealed that the “execution application” seeks the sale of the actor’s property to recover the unpaid child support owed to each daughter.
When reached for comment, Nitish Bharadwaj, known for his iconic portrayal of Lord Krishna in the television serial “Mahabharat,” responded via Whatsapp, stating, “I will have to check with my lawyers if any such application is filed by her. If we receive it, we shall reply appropriately.” Meanwhile, Smita Bharadwaj serves as an additional chief secretary in Bhopal.
This legal development follows Nitish Bharadwaj’s recent application to the Bhopal police commissioner, alleging that his estranged wife had “abducted” their two daughters and was preventing him from meeting them. He urged the police to register a kidnapping case against Smita Bharadwaj, sparking a public dispute between the estranged couple.
In response, Smita Bharadwaj vehemently denied the allegations, branding them as “false and malicious” attempts to tarnish her reputation.
As the legal battle intensifies between the former partners, the unfolding drama underscores the complexities and challenges often associated with high-profile divorces, highlighting the emotional toll and legal intricacies involved in such contentious proceedings.
