A devastating terror attack targeted an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in the Sanai Top area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday evening. The attack resulted in the tragic loss of one soldier’s life, while four others sustained injuries. According to reports, the terrorists ambushed the convoy, firing around 200 bullets at the vehicles within a span of just 15 minutes.
The incident occurred as the convoy, consisting of three vehicles, was moving from Jaranwalli Gali to Shahistar Top, where the IAF has a base. Terrorists positioned atop the hills along the road initiated the attack, targeting the last vehicle in the convoy and causing it to come to a halt after hitting its front windscreen. Subsequently, they continued firing at the convoy from the sides.
Prompt retaliation from IAF personnel forced the terrorists to retreat into nearby forests, averting further casualties. While the injured soldiers were promptly evacuated and provided medical attention, Corporal Vikky Pahade, a brave soldier of the Indian Air Force, succumbed to his injuries. Corporal Pahade, hailing from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district, made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.
The IAF expressed its deepest condolences to Corporal Pahade’s family, saluting his valor and dedication. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the Poonch district, with heightened surveillance and search operations underway. Six locals have been detained for questioning, and aerial surveillance has been initiated in key areas to track down the terrorists believed to be responsible for the attack.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the identity of the attackers and their possible links to previous incidents of violence in the region. It is suspected that the assailants, equipped with US-made M4 rifles and AK-47 assault rifles, may have received logistical support from locals familiar with the terrain. The attack underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in the region and the unwavering resolve of security forces to safeguard the nation against such acts of violence.
