New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock engaged in detailed talks on Friday, exploring numerous regional and global issues during the seventh India Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) meeting. The discussions emphasized the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations, now in its 25th year.
Jaishankar also met with German Vice Chancellor and Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister Robert Habeck, discussing pressing global economic and strategic challenges. Both leaders highlighted the critical role of bilateral cooperation in addressing these issues, with Jaishankar sharing on social media, “A good conversation with German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck. Exchanged views on contemporary global challenges, both strategic and economic.”
Adding a unique touch to the visit, Habeck traveled on the Delhi Metro with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal en route to the YashoBhoomi Convention Centre. Goyal noted India’s vision for “future-ready cities capable of handling large volumes.”
During the Asia-Pacific Conference, Habeck underscored India’s significance as a regional and global partner, advocating for an EU-India Free Trade Agreement. Prime Minister Modi, echoing this sentiment, praised the ongoing commitment to strengthening the India-Germany strategic partnership.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also arrived in India for a two-day visit, marking his third trip since taking office in 2021.
