In the wake of a series of violent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has firmly declared that the region will never become a part of Pakistan. Following a devastating attack on October 24 that resulted in the deaths of three soldiers and two Indian Army porters, Abdullah emphasized the urgent need to address the root causes of the violence.
In a statement on Friday, Abdullah lamented the ongoing loss of innocent lives, saying, “I have seen this for 30 years. Attacks will continue until a solution is found. Innocent people are being killed, and we will never become a part of Pakistan. So why are they doing this? Is it to ruin our future?”
He criticized Pakistan for failing to focus on its internal issues, urging its leadership to prioritize national development instead of perpetuating terrorism. “Khud barbaad ho rahe hain aur hume bhi saath barbaad kar rahe hain (Pakistan is destroying itself and dragging us down as well),” he stated. Abdullah called for a path of friendship and cooperation, warning that continued terrorism would only lead to further challenges for Pakistan.
The recent surge in violence has claimed 20 lives in the last two weeks alone, with attacks targeting civilians, workers, and military personnel. The October 24 incident involved terrorists opening fire on army trucks near Botapathri, close to Gulmarg, while earlier violence on October 20 left seven dead at a construction site in Ganderbal district.
This wave of attacks marks one of the most lethal periods for civilians in the region since the tragic June 9 incident in Reasi, where nine pilgrims lost their lives due to gunfire from terrorists. As the situation remains tense, Abdullah’s call for peace and resolution resonates as a vital plea for stability in the region.
