Israeli fighter jets struck Gaza after rockets were fired from the Palestinian territory on Saturday, hours after US President Joe Biden left Israel for Saudi Arabia on a Middle East trip aimed at deepening Israel’s integration into the region. Israel’s military said it hit two facilities belonging to Hamas, the Islamist militant group that controls the blockaded strip. One of the targets was an underground missile manufacturing facility, the military said.
Witnesses from Gaza described the two sites hit as Hamas training camps. No injuries were reported. Hamas condemned Biden’s visit, and the group’s spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, said the Israeli bombing “reflected the American support and encouragement the Zionist entity has received to continue its aggression and crimes.” Gunmen fired at Israeli planes, Barhoum said. Sirens sounded twice in southern Israel early Saturday, warning of incoming rocket fire. One rocket was intercepted and three projectiles landed in an open area, the military said.
