Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday took the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi to be investigated for money laundering linked to the National Herald newspaper. Speaking on Twitter, Chidambaram said “money laundering is like suspecting money laundering.”
“It is similar to allegations that you were found swimming illegally in a waterless pool,” he said with a laugh. “You can think of many examples (each is absurd than the other)”New Gandhis summons have sparked a war of words between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress, with the opposition claiming that the BJP is using “animated organizations to intimidate political opponents”. Attorney-General and Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi told a news conference that the ED closed the case in 2015 but new officials were brought to the agency to reconsider the matter.
“Friends, this is part of a larger disease. Disease, which will eventually consume the ruling party. The epidemic is affecting all political parties in terms of vendetta from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Farooq Abdullah to DMK officials, from Gujarat to West Bengal, from Mevani to Mamata Banerjee and the Mamata Banerjee family, “Singhvisaid.”The BJP has brought or attempted to bring malafide to all political opponents under animated organizations such as ED, CBI, IT etc,” he added.Responding to the congressional hearing, BJP national president JP Nadda said, “Have you ever seen a criminal claim to be a criminal? They will certainly deny it. Documents are proof.
