The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav met with H.E. Mr Francesco La Camera Director General, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) here today. The International Renewable Energy Agency is mandated to facilitate collaboration, information development, and promote the adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy. IRENA dignitaries can contribute to the G-20 during the Presidency of India, and discuss other issues of interest in both that include strengthening cooperation between IRENA and India.
Given IRENA’s growing global awareness of Renewable Energy, especially in Solar Energy, the Minister said IRENA could play a key role in India’s efforts to achieve the advanced climate objectives announced by our Honorable Prime Minister at COP 26.
Shri Yadav stressed that India’s G-20 presidency is a good opportunity for both India and IRENA on how Renewable Energy can accelerate the Industrial Transformation of the hard-to-stop sectors, but without compromising the development of developing countries and leaving no one behind.
The Union’s Environment Minister stressed that we could also look beyond the G-20 and existing systems while strengthening cooperation between IRENA and India. IRENA could also explore how it could be part of the CDRI and LeadIT, India-led. Both sides also discussed the importance of providing inclusive funding mechanisms, technology transfer and capacity building support to achieve developed climate goals for developing countries. like India.
