Climate Change Focus: FEMA has released the Comprehensive Climate Action Guide on adaptation services and mitigate the effects of climate change: NASA

NASA and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have issued guidelines that provide adaptation services and mitigate the effects of climate change. The guide, Building Alliances for Climate Action, combines different perspectives, stories, insights, and resources on climate change to help individuals and organizations make informed decisions.”NASA’s Earth observation and research support the Biden-Harris Administration’s climate agenda, which outlines the climate crisis between our foreign policy and national security,” said NASA Director Bill Nelson. “NASA is working with FEMA to ensure that communities across the U.S. and around the world have the resources they need to cope with bad weather – growing as a result of climate change.”

This guide is the result of Alliances for Climate Action, NASA and FEMA co-operatives last year, a comprehensive series aimed at addressing the growing need for accurate, timely, and timely information on global climate change. During the series, the speakers shared their ideas and ways to strengthen the action of a cohesive climate.”To meet this need, we need to invest in programs to end the cycle of disasters, damage and reconstruction,” said FEMA Director Deanne Criswell. “Our actions now will have a direct impact on the future. In the past, FEMA has been widely criticized for climate change. This will not be our future. ”

To improve access to critical information, Nelson announced the concept of NASA’s Earth Information Center, which is an opportunity for the agency to use its data and modeling capabilities to work with trusted governments and social partners by actively engaging in long-term communities affected by climate change. NASA is also partnering with FEMA in other ways related to Earth’s climate and science. Prior to, during and after the disaster, NASA’s Disaster Risk Plan liaises with FEMA and other response agencies, decision makers, and local governments to provide observational data and use research results. NASA data informs selection, supports decisions, and directs actions to build strong communities. NASA’s Disasters Mapping Portal provides real-time data on current events.

Supporting this endeavor are the world-class viewing aircraft we are flying today and building for the future. The facility will coincide with the next generation of planetary observatories – NASA’s Earth System Observatory – to be launched later this decade. As the next generation of planetary observatories, NASA’s observatory will provide a 3D, complete earth view to help us better understand what the evolution of our planet means to humankind.
