Government raises “Export Prohibition” on Bamboo Charcoal for Higher Bamboo Profit

The government has lifted the “export ban” on Bamboo charcoal, a move that will help the efficient use of green bamboo and higher profits in India’s bamboo industry. Khadi and the Village Industries Commission (KVIC), which supports thousands of bamboo industries in the country, have repeatedly called on the Government to lift the export ban on bamboo. KVIC Chairman Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena had written to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Shri PiyushGoyal, seeking to remove the export limit made of bamboo for the benefit of the bamboo industry.

“All bamboo charcoal obtained from official sources is permitted to be exported under the relevant documentation / original certificate proving that the bamboo used to make the coal was obtained from official sources,” read the notice issued by the Directorate General of the Directorate General. Foreign Trade (DGFT).

Reduce the cost of importing raw bamboo

KVIC Chairman Shri Saxena thanked the Minister of Trade and Industry, Shri PiyushGoyal for the amendment of the policy, which said the decision would reduce the cost of importing raw bamboo and make bamboo-based industries, especially in remote rural areas, financially viable. “Coal is in high demand in the international market and eliminating the ban on exports will enable the Indian bamboo industry to take advantage of this opportunity and take advantage of the global demand. This will also ensure the efficient use of bamboo waste and thus contribute to the vision of the Premier of Waste to Wealth, ”he said.

Significantly, India’s bamboo industry, meanwhile, suffers from very high transplant costs due to insufficient use of bamboo. In India, bamboo is widely used in Agarbatti production, with a high rate of 16% being used for bamboo making while the remaining 84% is whole waste. As a result, the cost of installing Bamboo Round Bamboo Sticks is Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 per MT compared to the average starting cost of Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 per MT.However, the export of bamboo coal will ensure the full utilization of bamboo waste and thus make the bamboo business more profitable. The barbecue bamboo charcoal, nutritional and raw material for the production of activated coal, has great potential in international markets such as the USA, Japan, Korea, Belgium, Germany, Italy, France and the UK.

Earlier, in order to create jobs in the bamboo-based industry, especially in the Agarbatti industry, KVIC, in 2019, it had called on the Central Government to change its policy on the sale of raw Agarbatti and importing from the most widely imported bamboo bamboo imported from Vietnam. and China. Next, in September 2019, the Department of Trade “restricted” the importation of green Agarbatti and in June 2020, the Ministry of Finance increased the import duty on round bamboo poles.
