Union Minister said about the EOS-02 Satellite will be launched in second half of Year 2022

EOS-02 is a planned Indian Earth observation microsatellite satellite developed by the Indian Space organization as a test case for the first launch of the Small Satellite launcher (SSLV) vehicle. Minister of State (Independent Payment) Earth Science; MoS PMO, Workers, Public Complaints, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh union minister said the EOS-02 satellite will be launched in the second quarter of 2022.

In a written reply to a question from Rajya Sabha today, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, EOS-02 is a satellite to showcase technology in a variety of new applications including agriculture, forestry, geology, hydrology, miniaturized power electronics, reaction wheels etc. perform SSLV-1 load. He informed that the due date for launch was Quarter-4 of 2021, but the onset of the epidemic and the result of globalization and disruption and the purchase of domestic goods were factors in delays in the completion of spacecraft due to unavailability of components, human capacity and resources.

Focusing on the reasons for the failure of the EOS-3 satellite launch, DrJitendra Singh said, a preliminary in-flight investigation conducted immediately after the launch revealed that Cryogenic Upper Stage malfunction had led to equipment failure. The National Committee for the Failure of Deficiency Scale (FAC) comprising academic experts and ISRO was immediately set up to identify the causes of the abnormality on the GSLV Cryogenic Upper Stage, which led to the withdrawal of the campaign and recommended future remedial equipment measures.

The Committee noted that the accumulation of pressure in the fuel tank (Liquid Hydrogen or LH2) during flight was not uncommon leading to low tank pressure during engine overheating. This led to the unusual operation of the Fuel Booster Turbo Pump (FBTP) installed inside the LH2 tank that feeds the engine’s main turbopump resulting in insufficient flow of Liquid Hydrogen to the thrust chamber.

Detailed research shows that the most likely reason for the reduction of LH2 tank pressure is Vent leakage and Relief Valve (VRV) leaks, which are used to release excess tank pressure during flight. Computer simulation and multiple low-level authentication tests which are closely mimic the conditions in the GSLV-F10 aircraft and confirmed FAC analysis.

Recommended improvements

The Minister informed that the Failure Analysis committee recommended the progress to improve the Cryogenic Upper Stage strength of future GSLV equipment. The GSLV car with the necessary changes to the Cryogenic Upper Stage is expected to be ready by the third quarter of 2022. The satellite identified for the next GSLV campaign is expected to be ready for launch in the fourth quarter of 2022. Therefore, there are no delays. targeted in relation to related projects due to failure.
