The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), operating under the Disaster Management Act of 2005, has earned the prestigious designation of a global ‘centre of excellence’ in the field of landslide disaster reduction. The recognition was announced during the sixth World Landslide Forum held in Florence, Italy.
As a key institution mandated with responsibilities such as human resource development, capacity building, training, research, documentation, and policy advocacy in the domain of disaster management, the NIDM’s achievement underscores its commitment to advancing knowledge and practices related to landslide risk reduction.
The institute received the title of World Centre of Excellence on Landslide Risk Reduction for the period 2023-2026. The certificate acknowledging this distinction was presented to Rajendra Ratnoo, the executive director of NIDM, during the international event.
This recognition further solidifies the NIDM’s role as a leading institution dedicated to addressing the challenges posed by landslides and promoting strategies for building safer and more resilient communities globally.
