The 2nd meeting of G-20 Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Mumbai

The 2nd meeting of the G-20 Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Mumbai from May 23-25. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal today held a meeting at the BMC headquarters in Mumbai to review the preparations being made by the BMC and other agencies.

The work done by Mumbai in the last few years in disaster management has been recognized not only at the national level but also at the global level. The planned meeting of the G-20 Council’s Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group is an opportunity to highlight this achievement to the world.

Keeping this in view, the BMC Commissioner directed all the agencies including the BMC to maintain proper coordination and complete the pending works within the prescribed time.

The 2nd meeting of the G-20 Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction will begin in Mumbai from 23 May 2023. More than 120 members will participate in this meeting. On the sidelines of this meeting, representatives of the working group will also visit the BMC headquarters.

This visit will include a tour of the Disaster Management Department control room and a walk through the historic City Hall building. Keeping this in mind, the BMC commissioner also mentioned that the ongoing renovation work in the BMC headquarters building should be completed on time.

He also directed that all works should be completed while maintaining good coordination with all other entities involved. A total of three meetings of the G-20 Council working group are being held in Mumbai in May. Keeping this in mind, the BMC commissioner said, the concerned unions should complete the works of roads, sanitation, beautification etc. under the jurisdiction in time and also keeping in mind the experience of the dignitaries during the previous G-20 meetings in the city. He also added that there will be a review of preparations in this regard next week.
