Top Updates on Delhi Flood: 23,692 people were evacuated from areas adjacent to the Yamuna River in Delhi

The level of the Yamuna river in Delhi fell to 208.46 meters at 6:00 am on Friday, but it remains constantly above the danger mark of 205.33. A total of 23,692 people were evacuated from areas adjacent to the Yamuna River in Delhi on Thursday, an official statement said.

Roads turned into rivers and water gushed into homes, medical facilities, crematoriums and shelters in Delhi as water levels in the Yamuna River rose to record levels.

Top Updates on Delhi Flood:

1. Several key areas in Delhi, including the Secretariat, which houses the offices of the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues, were flooded on Thursday as authorities scrambled to lead rescue and relief efforts. Waterlogging continued at Rajghat on Friday morning due to rising water level in river Yamuna following heavy rain. People are facing problems on ITO road due to waterlogging.

2. On Thursday evening, flood water from the Yamuna reached the Supreme Court over the possible backflow of sewage water. Some parts of Mathura Road and Bhagwan Das near the High Court were flooded.

3. Authorities have closed all schools and colleges until July 16 and banned the entry of heavy goods vehicles operating non-essential services.

4. Delhi is facing a shortage of drinking water as the Delhi government decided to cut supply by 25 per cent following the closure of three water treatment plants – Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla – due to rising levels of the Yamuna.

5. Though the level of the Yamuna remained stable for three hours on Thursday, it started rising again and reached 208.66, three meters above the danger mark, by 7 pm.

6. Chief Minister Arvind Kekriwal said entry of heavy vehicles, except those providing essential services, has been banned. He also asked Delhiites living in flood-affected areas not to leave their homes unless necessary.

7. Outer Ring Road near Red Fort, Vishwakarma Colony, Yamuna Bazar, ISBT Bus Terminus, Kashmir Gate, Shankaracharya Road, Majnu Ka Tila, Batla House, Kirari and Kingsway Camp were among other areas that were flooded.

8. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday issued an advisory asking people not to go to Nigambodh Ghat to perform last rites. The crematorium at Geeta Colony was also closed due to rising water level in the Yamuna.

9. The Archaeological Survey of India on Thursday announced that the Red Fort will remain closed to the general public and visitors from the second half of July 13 to July 14 due to heavy monsoon and rains in the state capital.

10. Twelve teams of the National Disaster Response Force equipped with inflatable boats, ropes and other equipment continued rescue and evacuation work on Thursday along with the Delhi Fire and Police.
