Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched in 2014 to bring about a change in people’s behavior and as a fitting tribute to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who advocated cleanliness as a way of life. Later, in 2021, a special campaign was launched between ministries and departments on clearance of backlogs and cleanliness.
