Bhrashtachari bhagao abhiyan: Kharge hits back at PM over his corruption taunt in opposition

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his corruption taunts against the opposition, accusing him of running a “brashtachari bhagao abhiyan” (running a campaign against the corrupt run) and said he must stop transforming his image by posing as anti-corruption crusader.

Addressing a rally after inaugurating an extension to the BJP headquarters here on Tuesday, Modi linked a rally of opposition parties against the BJP to his government’s anti-corruption campaign, saying “anti-India” forces were attacking constitutional institutions  the firm foundation of a growing India to stop the country’s growth.

Reacting to the remarks, Kharge tweeted in Hindi, saying, “Narendra Modi ji whose Rs 20,000 crore is invested in Adani shell companies?” “Are Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Vijay Mallya, Jatin Mehta etc. members of your ‘brashtachari bhagao abhiyan’? Are you the summoner of this alliance? Stop your image makeover by calling yourself an anti-corruption crusader!” the Congress chief said, hitting out at the Prime Minister.

Kharge said Modi needs to look within and asked why the BJP government in Karnataka was accused of taking 40 per cent commission.

“Why are you part of not?” 1 corrupt government in Meghalaya? Aren’t BJP leaders involved in Sanjivani Cooperative scam in Rajasthan, Poshan scam in Madhya Pradesh or NAN scam in Chhattisgarh? he asked.

Kharge said “the Enforcement Directorate is going after 95 per cent of the opposition leaders, while those who join the BJP are cleaned up in the “washing machine” Answer those who don’t ask – ‘How do you eat mangoes’ or ‘why don’t you get tired”.

Congress chief said “If you have a 56-inch chest, set up a JPC (joint parliamentary committee on the Adani matter) and hold an open press conference for the first time in nine years”.

In his remarks at the event, Modi said the crackdown on the corrupt and the corrupt would continue unhindered by “false allegations”. Never before in the history of independent India has there been such a big anti-corruption campaign and it has shaken the corrupt, he said. “All those involved in corruption have come on one platform,” Modi added.
