The center has issued a new warning warning people not to share a copy of their Aadhaar card with any organizations as it could be misused. In a statement issued on May 27, the Department of Electricity and Information Technology said organizations that have obtained a user license from UIDAI could use Aadhaar to identify them. Private companies such as hotels or movie theaters have no right to keep copies of Aadhaar cards, a media report said.
“Unlicensed private companies such as hotels or movie theaters are not allowed to collect or store copies of Aadhaar cards. It is an offense under the Aadhaar Act 2016. If a private organization wants to see your Aadhaar card, or wants a copy of your Aadhaar card., Please ensure that have a valid user license from UIDAI, “said the release.
As another way to send a copy of the Aadhaar card, users can download the covered Aadhaar card, which shows only the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number, on the UIDAI website.
“Please refrain from using a public computer in an online store to download e-Aadhaar. However, if you do, please make sure you permanently delete all e-Aadhaar copies from your computer, ”said the advice.
