Congress has released its final list of candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, naming Shweta Singh for Bokaro and Ajay Dubey for Dhanbad. These two constituencies are set to vote in the second phase of elections on November 20, with the last date for filing nominations being October 29.
Shweta Singh, daughter-in-law of the late Samaresh Singh, a prominent Jharkhand leader and former MLA from Bokaro, previously contested the Bokaro seat in 2019 but lost to BJP’s Biranchi Narayan by a margin of approximately 10,000 votes. Her re-nomination reflects the Congress’s confidence in her political legacy and family ties in the region.
Ajay Dubey, the candidate from Dhanbad, has a longstanding association with Congress and has held multiple posts within the party. Dubey contested the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat in 2014 but was defeated by BJP’s P.N. Singh by over 2.92 lakh votes. His selection signals Congress’s intent to strengthen its position in a constituency where BJP holds a significant influence.
With this announcement, Congress has declared candidates for all 30 of its seats in Jharkhand. The party has released its candidates in three phases, the final two names added on Monday. Notably, Congress has denied re-nomination to one of its sitting MLAs, Umashankar Akela from the Barhi seat, who will now contest under the Samajwadi Party banner.
Jharkhand will hold voting for its 81 assembly seats in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with counting scheduled for November 23.
