Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications has announced that it has received 100 registrations for M2M/WLAN/WPAN service providers till date. M2M/IoT communication leads to significant operational efficiency, improved product and service quality, appropriate and autonomous decision-making, cost-effectiveness and better return on investment, in addition to being capable of unlimited scalability.
To strengthen the M2M/IoT ecosystem and facilitate wider diffusion and innovation in the sector, DoT has issued guidelines for registration of M2M service providers and WPAN/WLAN connectivity providers. To facilitate potential registrants and to facilitate ease of doing business, DoT on March 22 started the registration process for M2M service providers through a very simple online registration process on its existing Saral Sanchar portal.
This registration would go a long way in addressing issues such as sourcing from authorized telecom licensees, KYC, traceability and encryption for M2M service providers. It can also help M2M service providers to boost their business globally as the registration will give them recognition as a registered entity with the Government of India. In addition, online registration will create a database that ISPs can use to manage efficient spectrum sharing in unlicensed bands, which can help achieve high QoS.
This registration will also facilitate the government to gather information on the various M2M/IoT use cases being developed by M2MSPs and help in the adoption of a single M2M standards-based deployment in the country. M2M Service Providers and WPAN/WLAN Connection Providers who have not yet registered are again requested to register through DoT’s Saral Sanchar Portal: https://www.saralsanchar.gov.in
