IMD report that Southwest monsoon hit several districts of south Bengal

The southwest monsoon hit several districts of south Bengal on Monday, an area that has been reeling under heatwave-like conditions for over a month, the IMD said.

A spokesperson of the India Meteorological Department said that the conditions have become favorable for the further advance of the system over the southern parts of the state in the next two to three days and will cause light rainfall in various parts and heavy rain in some pockets.

Overcast skies and light drizzle greeted the city on Monday morning, much to the delight of its residents, who were parched due to the heat.

“Today, Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some parts of North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Nadia, Hooghly, Murshidabad, Birbhum and Purba Bardhaman districts…

Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon over more parts of South Bengal during the next two to three days,” the spokeswoman said.

Although the cloud cover provided some relief to people from the scorching sun in the city, its neighborhood and other parts of south Bengal, there was no escaping the discomfort of high humidity, which reached a maximum of 91 percent and 69 percent. minimum.

However, the mercury dropped slightly. The maximum temperature was recorded at 32.9 degrees Celsius, one degree less than the average maximum temperature and minimum of 29.9 degrees, the weatherman said.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts of North Bengal and heavy rain at one or two places over Kalimpong and Darjeeling districts in the next 24 hours. The intensity of precipitation will decrease in the region from June 23.

The city and other parts of south Bengal have been reeling under heat wave conditions for over a month as the mercury hovered between 37 and 43 degrees Celsius. People faced a tough time due to high humidity between 80-90 percent.
