Due to extreme heat 34 hospital patients die in UP’s Ballia

At least 34 people admitted to a district hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia have died in the last 24 hours due to extreme heat, health officials said on Friday.

According to officials, the patients who lost their lives were in their 60s. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Jayant Kumar said the area is reeling under severe heat and people are being admitted to the hospital for treatment. He said there were 34 deaths in two days, of which 23 deaths were reported on June 15 and June 11.

The CMO said he admitted that he was suffering from various ailments, adding that the elderly were unable to bear the sweltering heat.

District Hospital Chief Medical Officer (CMS) Diwakar Singh told reporters that ventilators, coolers and air conditioners have been arranged in the hospital to avoid the risk of heatstroke for patients and staff.

The number of doctors and medical staff has also increased, he added. Singh advised people to follow preventive measures to prevent heat stroke. Meanwhile, Ballia along with entire central and eastern Uttar Pradesh is reeling under sultry weather

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Ballia was recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, which is 4.7 degrees above normal. According to data, the mercury has been hovering above 41 degrees Celsius since last week.
