AAP Launches Social Media Campaign Following Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest

March 25, 2024 | 05:14 PM IST The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has initiated a social media campaign in response to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, sparking a wave of protests and digital activism from AAP supporters.

According to Delhi Education Minister and AAP leader Atishi, the party has launched a “DP (display picture) campaign” on various social media platforms, including X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook, and WhatsApp. As part of this campaign, party leaders and volunteers have changed their profile pictures to an image depicting Kejriwal behind bars, accompanied by the text ‘Modi Ka Sabse Bada Dar Kejriwal’ (Modi’s biggest fear is Kejriwal).

Atishi announced the campaign during a media address, emphasizing the party’s commitment to spreading Kejriwal’s message across the country. She urged AAP supporters to participate in the campaign by changing their social media profile pictures, highlighting the importance of safeguarding democracy and the constitution.

In addition to the digital campaign, AAP leaders have decided to abstain from celebrating the Holi festival as a mark of protest against Kejriwal’s arrest. Atishi underscored the symbolic significance of Holi as a festival of justice and victory over evil, stating that AAP members are dedicated to fighting injustice and cruelty.

Kejriwal’s arrest has stirred controversy, with AAP accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of framing him in a false case and using the Enforcement Directorate to suppress political opposition. The charges against Kejriwal stem from his alleged involvement in formulating the excise policy, which purportedly resulted in undue benefits for certain individuals.

Despite multiple summons from the Enforcement Directorate, Kejriwal did not depose before the probe agency. The AAP leaders maintain that his arrest, coinciding with the announcement of Lok Sabha polls, is a politically motivated move to undermine his leadership.

As the campaign gains momentum on social media, AAP supporters continue to rally behind Kejriwal, advocating for his release and denouncing what they perceive as an attack on democracy.
