Enhanced Security Measures Implemented in Kashmir Ahead of Supreme Court Verdict on Article 370

Security has been significantly increased across Kashmir in anticipation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on a series of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir. Checkpoints and heightened security presence have been established in various locations, including Srinagar, to ensure law and order is maintained.

Security forces are conducting random frisking and vehicle checks in and around Srinagar, with checkpoints also set up in other districts of Kashmir. Despite the heightened security measures, officials have reported that there are no restrictions on the movement of people, and daily activities, including the opening of shops and businesses, continue normally.

Security agencies are closely monitoring the situation, and any attempts to disturb peace will be dealt with sternly. The Cyber Police in Kashmir has issued an advisory urging social media users to use the platforms responsibly, avoid spreading rumors or fake news, and refrain from sharing content that promotes violence or false narratives.

As a precautionary measure, no convoy movement will be allowed on the day of the verdict, and the movement of vehicles carrying VIPs and protected persons in sensitive areas is also advised to be minimized. The Supreme Court is expected to announce its verdict on the petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, which took place on August 5, 2019, resulting in the bifurcation of the state into the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
