Apple’s Taiwanese supplier Foxlink said on Wednesday it was scrambling to resume production after a fire broke out at one of its plants in southern India, halting operations at a facility that makes charging cables for iPhones.
The factory, located in the Chittoor district of India’s Andhra Pradesh state, is unlikely to resume full operations for two months, raising supply chain concerns for the US gaint.
Foxlink was engulfed in a massive fire on Monday which led to part of the building collapsing, but there were no casualties. The company said in a statement to the Taiwan Stock Exchange that it was investigating the cause of the fire and “working hard to resume production”.
In an earlier statement late Tuesday, the company said the site had been cordoned off by the fire department and that four production lines were damaged.
As the plant, equipment and supplies are covered by insurance, the fire has not yet had a major impact on the company’s finances and business, she added. The company will coordinate with customers and suppliers to “discuss solutions for affected production capacity before work resumes.”
Additionally, the company’s shares fell more than two percent in early morning trading on Wednesday, compared with a 0.5 percent drop in the broader market.
