British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is very much looking forward to attending the G20 summit in New Delhi in September, UK High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis said. He thought it was “great” that India is chairing the G20. India assumed the chairmanship of the G20 on 1 December 2022.
About 200 meetings will be held across the country on various tracks of the bloc, culminating in a summit on September 9-10.
Alex Ellis says “I think it’s great, I think it’s great that India is chairing the G20, because the world is quite divided at the moment, unfortunately, because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine”.
Praising India’s “vibrant” culture and diversity that attracts people from all over the world, the British envoy said: “India is a unique country that brings the world into it. And India has always fascinated the rest of the world.” the world, because of it (art, culture)… because of its different shapes and styles, colors and attracts people”.

On culture being an important element of the G20, Ellis said he hopes the arts can be replicated where the G20 brings people from around the world. As India gears up for the G20 mega-summit to be held at the newly opened Pragati Maidan complex in Delhi, the UK High Commissioner said, “Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is very much looking forward” to the Leaders’ Summit.
The UK High Commissioner earlier visited Seema Kohli’s ‘Cut from the Same Cloth’ art exhibition held at the iconic Bikaner House, which will open to the public from Saturday and will be on display till August 4.
In meetings of the working group on culture held before the G20 summit, Ellis said: “Culture can attract, it can explain and what is also fundamental to what it is to be human”.
From many nations, India, the UK and the world, “everyone has a culture and if you find a way to connect that, you can do a big thing,” he said, referring to the subject of India’s presidency.
G20 One Country. One family. One future.
The British government is looking forward to Prime Minister Sunak’s visit to Delhi in September for the G20 summit, British Minister for Media, Tourism and Creative Industries Sir John Whittingdale told in Goa last month.
He said this after attending the G20 tourism ministerial meeting that ended on June 22. Whittingdale also said India was doing a “fantastic job” chairing the influential bloc.
“Anyone who comes from outside… I’m from the UK, you’re very curious about a new country, what the country is about. How I understand the country. And one way to look at the country is to look at So it’s fantastic to have artists , who can interpret art,” he said.
Artists can make you look at colors, shapes and forms, and through that you begin to understand, Because India is a very big, very complicated country. And one of the pleasures is to meet the artists and see the fantastic art and the way that helps me understand India,” added the envoy.
