Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya visited the PGIMER Satellite Center at Sangrur and reviewed today’s progress

Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya visited the PGIMER Satellite Center at Sangrur and reviewed today’s progress. Expressing satisfaction with the pace of implementation of the Project, the Minister said, “With the pace at which work is being carried out, including the purchase of medical devices and equipment, the Satellite Center will be fully operational by January 2023 and will provide immense relief not only to the local population but also to those far and wide .”

The Union Health Minister informed about the success of the ‘Free Preventive Vaccination’ launched by the Prime Minister on July 15 for 75 days on the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, “More than 13 lakh people have already benefited from this facility by getting vaccinated under this initiative within a month and three days. The minister urged the people of Punjab and the country in general, especially the vulnerable population, to get vaccinated within 75 days and prepare for the COVID crisis.

Appreciating the health workers for their commendable role in containing the COVID crisis, the minister said, “Our country has been appreciated across the world for two things; for the treatment of COVID by following the guidelines and striving for vaccination by crossing the threshold of more than 200 million doses. The minister supported the need for “affordable health for all” and shared the government’s initiatives. to promote generic medicines which includes more than 8,500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country which are visited by more than 20 million people daily in the country, an awareness campaign through collaboration with the National Medical Council and launch of ‘Jan Aushadhi Sugam’ app to make people aware about salt in the drug to allow them to make an informed choice between the generic and the brand name drug. The minister also informed that ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendra will also be opened at the satellite centre, Sangrur’.

The minister led the meeting, which was attended by prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, Faculty Executives and Senior Administrative Officers including Sh. Kumar Gaurav Dhawan (IRS), DDA, Prof. Vipin Koushal, MS, Sh.Kumar Abhay, FA, Prof. Ashok Kumar, Addl. Medical Superintendent, PGIMER & Nodal Officer, Satellite Centre, Sangrur. A detailed presentation was made to the Minister in which the dignitary was informed that the Satellite Centre, comprising a 300-bed hospital, was envisaged with the intention of reducing overcrowding at PGIMER, Chandigarh and reducing the travel time of patients. Prof. Vivek Lal informed, “On a 25-acre plot, this satellite center project costs Rs. 449.00 million crowns. Phase 1 has already been done with the construction of temporary OPD, Guest House and Boundary Wall and Phase 2 implementation is under.
