Virat Kohli has not been in the best form and low scores in the last series

Virat Kohli has not been in the best form and a series of low scores in the last series did not bode well. The former Indian captain failed to put on a show for the fans on India’s recent tour of England after which he missed the away series against the West Indies and Zimbabwe. He managed only 33 runs in the two ODIs he was a part of in England. The result was similar in Tests where he managed just 31 runs in two innings and was dismissed for 1 and 11 in two T20Is.

Now, as the team prepares for the Asia Cup, the 33-year-old is ready to return to action at the continental tournament and is also grinding away behind the scenes. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also remains optimistic about Kohli finding his lost mojo in the tournament. “Let him train, let him play matches. He is a big player and has a lot of goals. I hope he comes back. He is just not capable of scoring a century and I believe he will find his form in the Asia Cup,” Ganguly said in an interview with Sports Tak.

Kohli’s bat has been quiet for a long time and his last century came back in 2019 in the historic pink ball Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The right-handed batsman may have managed a couple of half-centuries in the process, but it’s a ton that fans have been eagerly waiting for. Kohli would also like to settle a personal score against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup match in Dubai, the first ever since India’s humiliating loss in the T20 World Cup last year.

After that, the Kohli-led Indian unit had to endure a ten-wicket defeat against their arch-rivals at the same venue. However, much has changed in the Indian camp since then. Ravi Shastri is no longer the coach, Rahul Dravid has replaced the 60-year-old former cricketer. The captaincy baton has also been handed over to Rohit Sharma who would also be looking to start the Asia Cup campaign on a strong note.
