Technology Focus: The new campus of National Institute of Fashion Technology in Panchkula was inaugurated today by Sh. Piyush Goyal

The new campus of National Institute of Fashion Technology in Panchkula was inaugurated today by Sh. PiyushGoyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles and Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister, Haryana.During his speech after the inauguration of Sh. Piyush Goyal appreciated the efforts of various teams, Department of Architecture, NIFT, Haryana Technical Education and other departments who worked for the planning and construction of this campus. Talking about his roots in Haryana, the Minister applauded the efforts of Sh. Manohar Lal, Chief Minister, Haryana, who enabled the establishment of this campus. Shri Goyal revised the mantra of 5 F’s for fashion industry which are export from farm to fiber to fabric to fashion to foreign export to make the textile industry in India a strong name in the world.

The Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Manohar Lal thanked the former Minister of Textiles Smt. SmritiIrani and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for their guidance and support in planning and setting up the centre. He said the building of the center was exceptional and requested the central government to provide additional funds for the construction of an amphitheater and an auditorium for the center. He also welcomed students from across the country to Haryana. Sh. Gian Chand Gupta, Hon’ble Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Sh. Rattan Lal Kataria, Honorable Member of Parliament, Ambala and Sh. Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar was also present on the occasion.

The event began with the inauguration of the campus with the unveiling of a plaque and ribbon cutting by dignitaries. This was followed by a tour of the campus and planting of saplings in the campus lawns.Established in 2019 with CE (Continuing Education) programs, NIFT Panchkula is the youngest and growing at a fast pace. Its first batch of students (Masters of Fashion Management) joined the campus in 2020. The center was ranked 13th in fashion education in the country in a study conducted by Outlook India in 2022. NIFT Panchkula offers four undergraduate Programs in Fashion Design , Textile Design, Fashion Communication and Fashion Technology and two graduate programs in Design Space and Fashion Management.

The campus has been functioning since 2019 from the premises of Government Polytechnic in Sector 26, Panchkula. In its initial years, NIFT Panchkula faced the biggest challenge of welcoming students online. Now after the pandemic phase is over, NIFT is all set to welcome its students with a well-equipped building with various labs across departments in a lush green campus with the backdrop of Morni Hills. The center also offers state domicile for the admission of Haryana state students. Various Indian Government schemes offer financial support to deserving students as well. The campus also includes a fully-equipped 108-bed girls hostel, keeping in mind the safety and comfort of the students, which will be opened from the upcoming session in August 2022. The curriculum and faculty are dedicated to uplifting indigenous crafts and artisan skills. welfare under various schemes implemented under the guidelines of the Handloom and Handicrafts Authority, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The first batch of 33 Master of Fashion Management students graduated in 2022 and successfully placed in companies like Tata Trent, Reliance Brands, Landmark group, Shoppers Stop, Grasim etc. NIFT is a pioneer fashion education institute in the country and has been at the forefront of providing professional human resources to the textile and apparel industry. It became a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Parliament of India with the President of India as the ‘Visitor’ and has 17 full-fledged campuses across the country. It has a vision to offer an educational experience of the highest standards in fashion; relating to design, technology and management. The student body is exposed to traditional Indian textiles and handicrafts from which to draw inspiration while focusing on emerging global trends relevant to the industry.
