The AIADMK headquarters was sealed by the authorities on Monday following violence and vandalism between supporters of rival leaders Edappady K Palaniswami (EPS) andAbout Panneer selvame in and around the party office. While Panneer selvam (OPS) left the party office with his supporters after claiming that he would approach the court, take legal action and go to the party workers to seek justice, the officials sealed the AIADMK headquarters ‘M GR Maaligai’.The action was taken in the wake of the violence, with authorities saying everyone inside the party office was moved out by police. Senior police and finance officials were present.
Groups of men loyal to Panneer selvam and Palani swami clashed and there were scenes of violence and vandalism in and around the AIADMK headquarters in downtown Avvai Shanmugam Salai. Palaniswami has openly criticized Panneer selvam as a “stoog” of the ruling DMK and accused him of violence, saying that the OPS had taken records from the party office and the office room used by the late party supremo J Jayalalithaa had been broken into.AIADMK leader D Jayakumar said the police had been asked in advance to protect the party office and their fears have now been fulfilled. He blamed Panneerselvam and his supporters for the violence and hit out at the government for sealing the party office.
