Disaster Focus: Dozen people including six schoolchildren were killed in a bus accident in Himachal Pradesh

At least a dozen people, including six schoolchildren, were killed when a bus they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into a ditch 200 meters near the village of Jangla, 40 kilometers from the Kullu district headquarters in Himachal Pradesh, on Monday morning. Three passengers were injured in the crash at around 8.45am.

The bus was on its way from Shanshar to Sainj and locals were rushing to the scene before rescue teams arrived. KwaZulu-Natal police superintendent Gurdev Chand Sharma said rescuers, including police, firefighters and home security guards, were rushed to the scene as soon as they were informed of the accident. “According to preliminary information, there were 15 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident is unknown. ” He said the injured had been transferred to nearby hospitals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the accident a tragedy and announced a R2 lakh compensation for each of the relatives of those who lost their lives. “At this critical juncture my thoughts are with the bereaved families,” the Office of the Premier said. “I hope the injured recover quickly. The local government provides full support for those affected. ”

On Twitter, President Ram Nath Kovind said he was saddened by the news of the deaths of students and others and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. “My deepest sympathies go out to the families who lost their children and loved ones in the tragedy. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. ”
