Disaster Focus: Delhi has witnessed a series of fire incidents in the past few weeks

A fire broke out in ‘Malkhana’, or witness room, at Delhi police station in Mandawali on Wednesday night, ANI reported. Ten firefighters were rushed to the scene after the blaze broke out at 10.20pm, firefighters said in Delhi. The fire was under control at night and no casualties were reported. Malkhana is a warehouse used to store seized items suspected of being related to crime.

Achin Garg, an additional DCP East District official, said some property was damaged by fire and an investigation had been launched. Delhi has seen a series of fire incidents in the past few weeks.

Earlier on Wednesday, at least 80 electric rickshaws were set on fire in a car park near the Jamia Millia Islamia Metro Station in the southeast of Delhi. The fire may have started because of a short charging cable.“A fire in the Metro car park burned 10 cars, one motorcycle, two motorcycles, 30 new e-rickshaws, 50 old e-rickshaws. No one was killed, “said Delhi Fire Services (DFS) director Atul Garg.
