Babar Azam is still making history as he returned to the international stage on Wednesday against the West Indies. The Pakistan captain scored an impressive hundred (103 off 107 balls) as the team defeated the Westindies by five wickets in a 306 run. This was Babar’s third in the ODIs; the last two will face Australia in Pakistan’s last ODI series at home. Babar hit 114 and 105 in the last two games of the series against Australia. After all, this is the second time Babar has scored three big points in a trot in the fifty format. In 2016, the Pakistan captain had scored 120, 123, and 117 points in three games in a row – all against the West Indies in the United Arab Emirates. So, with his century against the Westindies on Wednesday, Babar became the first player in ODI history to achieve this.
This was also Babar’s 17th ODI ODI in 87 games. However, that is not the only record Babar has achieved during his centenary knockout at Multan’s first ODI. The right-hander also got very quick to get 1,000 runs as captain by format. He reached four innings in his 13th innings as captain of Pakistan, surpassing Virat Kohli of India, who reached the number of innings in his 17th innings.
Babar also passed on the likes of AB de Villiers of South Africa (20 innings) and Kane Williamson of New Zealand (23 innings) in the match. The Pakistan captain currently holds the number 1 spot in the ODI list of strikers. Earlier, Imam-ul-Haq (65), Mohammad Rizwan (59) and Khushdil Shah (41 *) made a significant contribution as Pakistan chased a 306 run with four balls remaining. The West Indies rode in the opening game for Shai Hope (127), but their middle team – with the exception of Shamarh Brooks (71) failed to climb.
